full recap.

The 1975’s Still at Their Very Best tour brought me to Kansas City—a trip that became one of my favorite concert adventures yet. It started with a drive to my friend’s place in Kearney, Nebraska, where I stayed the night before we headed out early the next morning. She drove us the rest of the way to Kansas City, where our rainy, chaotic, and absolutely amazing journey began.

car camping.
The first step to securing a great spot on the floor was getting our numbers written on our hands. We camped out in the car overnight to wait for morning check-ins which was fan organized. The rain didn’t stop pouring the entire time, but somehow, we managed to get a decent night’s sleep.

By the time morning came around, we were ready to line up for our wristbands. Tim handed them out, matching the numbers on our hands, and we were good to go. Afterward, we headed back to our hotel for a much-needed nap before the show. That little bit of rest saved us—we knew the day ahead was going to be a long one.

Later that day, we returned to the venue, where it was still raining. Thankfully, the wristband system made everything easy. We were brought inside pretty quickly and didn’t have to deal with standing outside in the rain for hours. While waiting in line indoors, my friend managed to snag a poster, which felt like a win for the day.

Once it was time to head to the floor, we got escorted down and found the perfect spot. We ended up right behind a group of super sweet girls who had snagged barricade spots, so we had a great view.

…still at their very best.
When The 1975 finally hit the stage, everything we went through to get there—the rain, the camping, the lack of sleep—completely melted away. It was easily one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Matty Healy was in full form, and the band sounded absolutely incredible.

During the show, there was a really cool moment when the band recognized a fan in the audience who had been to a ton of their concerts. They gave her the chance to pick a surprise track for the setlist. She chose Undo from the Sex EP, and the crowd loved it.

perfect ending.
After the show, my friend asked me to take a picture of her in front of the stage. While we were taking it, a crew member walked over with a handful of Ross’s guitar picks and handed us each one. It was the perfect way to wrap up an already amazing night.

final thoughts.
From camping in the car during a rainstorm to landing a perfect spot on the floor, and from hearing a surprise track to ending the night with Ross’s guitar pick, it was everything I love about live music.
